Played at Higginson Park, Marlow

On Saturday 17th April 2021 35 overs a side

The season cracked off with Knotty Green losing their first three wickets in rapid succession, those batsmen contributing just six runs between them. Park’s opening bowlers were Brent Lombard – Captaining his Club for the first time - and Vaughan van de Linde, who was sporting a shiny new pair of boots, not the traditional white, but a deep yellow colour not normally seen except on a hot dog.

The fourth wicket partnership saw K. Patel and Crump weather the storm as they scored ninety-three runs between them until Pete Stephens bowled Crump and with Sam Coote bowling Patel for 54 and removing Sutcliffe for a duck, six wickets were down for just over a hundred runs.

They reached 182-9 from their allotted overs thanks to an innings of forty-two by Adhyaru, who became the only player to be caught, thereby giving Shez Mirza his first wicket for the Club. The surprise of the day was that Park’s bowlers hit the stumps five times, with two other wickets being leg-before, despite virtually no practice whatsoever as a result of a long lockdown because of coronavirus.

For a first-of-season match, Park had put out one of its strongest batting line ups for many years and by the thirtieth over they had cruised to victory, the highlight of their innings being Jordan Turner’s 61 not out – with eight fours and three sixes - on his return to the crease after eighteen months out through injury. Marlow Park won by five wickets.
